THE Penang Governor Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak has consented to bestowing the state awards, medals, and honours to 1,036 recipients this year, in conjunction with his 72nd birthday celebration.
The list is led by Toh Puan Datin Seri Khadijah Mohd Nor, who is the consort of the Penang Governor. She is conferred the Darjah Utama Pangkuan Negeri (DUPN), which comes with the title “Dato’ Seri Utama”.
Two individuals have been awarded the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN), which comes with the title “Dato’ Seri”. They are Media Prima Berhad Group chairman Datuk Dr Syed Hussian Syed Junid and former Maybank chairman Datuk Mohaiyani Shamsudin.
Penang Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang said the Penang Governor has agreed to confer 148 state awards, comprising DUPN, DPPN, Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN) and Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) this year.
“The list of the state award recipients, which carries the respective titles of “Dato’ Seri Utama”, “Dato’ Seri” and “Dato’”, will be gazetted tomorrow (July 22),” he told a media conference in Komtar today.
Among the notable recipients are Penang State Secretary Dato’ Abdul Razak Jaafar (DGPN), former Penang police chief Comm Dato’ Sahabudin Abd Manan (DGPN), Roman Catholic Bishop of Penang Right Reverend Dato’ Sebastian Francis (DGPN), Malaysian Gymnastics Federation president Dato’ Tan Gin Soon (DGPN), Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Dato’ Zailani Hashim (DMPN), One Hope Charity & Welfare chairman Chua Sui Hau, Penang Hospital’s Covid-19 management team chief Dr Chow Ting Soo, Buddhist Tzu Chi Merits Society Malaysia commissioner Khoo Boo Leong (DSPN) and Balik Pulau MP Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik (DSPN).
Law said the recipients could use their respective titles after the list is gazetted.
He added that the names of the remaining 888 state medals and honour recipients for the Darjah Johan Negeri (DJN), Bintang Cemerlang Negeri (BCN), Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji (PKT), Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK), Pingat Jasa Masyarakat (PJM) and Pingat Bakti Setia (PBS) would be published in the Penang ePingat website after the list is gazetted.
Meanwhile, State Secretary Dato’ Abdul Razak Jaafar said the investiture ceremony to present the awards had been postponed to a later date which would be announced later, in line with the current Covid-19 situation and the National Recovery Plan.
