A TOTAL of 52 schools, encompassing both primary and secondary institutions on the island, were recognised today for their dedicated participation in this year’s Green School Award programme.
Now in its 13th edition, the programme continues to receive enthusiastic responses from schools, reinforcing the importance of integrating green initiatives into students’ daily lives. This year, 40 primary and 12 secondary schools were honoured for their efforts to cultivate a greener future and promote environmental stewardship.
Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk A. Rajendran highlighted that solid waste management remains a pressing issue in the country and emphasised the pivotal role of students – the future leaders of Malaysia – in addressing it.
“We aim for students to not only gain knowledge about waste management but also fully comprehend the consequences of improper waste handling.
“Congratulations to all the winning schools for your exceptional contributions to the environment. Keep up the commendable work.
“As for the schools that did not win, don’t be discouraged. Strive to achieve greater heights next year,” Rajendran said during the Green School Award ceremony held at the Jalan Patani community hall in George Town.
