A TOTAL of 150 booths have confirmed their participation thus far in the Malaysia International Travel Mart (MITM) in Penang next month.
Organising chairman Andy Cheah said several non-governmental organisations from various countries, like Japan, Thailand, Taiwan and South Korea would be taking part in the fair.
Said to be the biggest travel fair in the northern region, MITM be held at the Setia SPICE Arena on July 2 and 3 from 10am to 9pm.
Cheah added that the fair, organised by the Malaysia Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA), was not held for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The MITM will be a great platform for travelers to get insights on holiday packages as well as the right time to travel.
“In 2019, the MITM attracted some 50,000 of visitors,” Cheah said during the soft launch of the event at the Cititel Hotel in Penang on May 31.
It is learned that the Malaysian Airlines, Firefly, China Southern Airlines, China Airlines and STARLUX Airlines were among the sponsors for the lucky draw prizes.
“I would like to also thank the state government for their support. So, we hope that all individuals who are planning to travel will take part in the fair,” he added.
Meanwhile, state Tourism and Creative Economy Commitee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin congratulated the MCTA for organising the fair in Kuala Lumpur as well.
“As the state exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, I am committed to developing and promoting the tourism industry by increasing more quality tourism offers in Penang.
“To realise it, we have collaborated with many private and public associations as well as agencies to create new quality tourism products in Penang.
“For instance, the Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus in Bukit Mertajam is currently undergoing conservation and preservation. Hopefully, it will be open to public by end of this year,” Yeoh said.
