A TOTAL of about RM1 million has been allocated for the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination drive in Bagan parliamentary constituency from June 15 to June 16.

Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng announced that the vaccination drive aims to vaccinate females aged 13 to 30.

“The two-day vaccination drive will be held at Dewan Dato’ Haji Ahmad Badawi in Butterworth. This vaccination is crucial for protecting against cervical cancer.

“Cervical cancer ranks as the second most common cancer affecting women.

“Hence, it’s important for the women to receive the jab to safeguard against cervical cancer,” he said at a press conference at the Air Putih service centre today.

Lim said the vaccination drive is provided free, with each recipient receiving two doses. The cost of each dose is about RM500.

Senator Dr A. Lingeswaran, who oversees the vaccination programme, urged individuals to register for the vaccination.

“Healthy screening will also be available on the day,” he added.

He said the vaccination programme aims to benefit a total of 1,600 recipients.
