22 sworn in as MBSP councillors, including 12 new faces

TWELVE new faces have been appointed among the 22 Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillors for the 2023/2024 term.

 

The new faces are Zainuddin Mohamed (PKR), Nurhidayah Che Rose (PKR), Muhammad Fadzli Roslan (PKR), Predeeb Kumar Kalidass (PKR), Lim Chee Chien (Darwim Lim) (PKR), Nur Aishah Zainol (PKR), Muhammad Fitri Termizi (Amanah), Chong Wei Hoong (Derick) (DAP), Linggeswaran Charmar (DAP), Ng Wai Leong (Victor Ng) (DAP), Ponnudurai Anthony Srinvasagam (DAP) and Benson Neoh Kah Wei (Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce).

 

They took their oaths in a swearing-in ceremony before Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Deputy Chief Minister I Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, State Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, who is also the former Penang chief minister, and MBSP mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad at the MBSP headquarters building in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

 

The new MBSP lineup for the 2023/2024 term comprises 10 from DAP, PKR (nine), Amanah (two) and NGO (one).

 

The tenure for the councillors is from Oct 1, 2023 until Dec 31, 2024.

 

In his speech, Azhar congratulated all the appointed councillors.

 

He urged them to work with the city council and give their best service to the people of Seberang Perai.

 

H’ng also congratulated all the new councillors and said that the performances of the respective councillors will be monitored in accordance with the KPI (key performance indicator).

 

“We want the councillors appointed by the state government to be able to commit themselves to the people and carry out their duty with integrity.

 

“I also hope all the newly appointed councillors will work together with MBSP mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad together with the whole staff as a team to develop Seberang Perai as a better place to live in,” he said.

“I would also like to say thank you to the former MBSP councillors for everything they have done and their contributions to the city council.

 

“I hope they will continue to help the people although they are no longer councillors,” he said.

 

Chow also urged MBSP to continue its ‘people-centric’ approach to make Seberang Perai a sustainable and conducive city in line with the Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’.
