RECREATIONAL park-goers in the Macallum neighbourhood can soon enjoy a vibrant environment for their evening exercise routines, thanks to the installation of 24 spotlights.
Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Alan Lim expressed optimism that the elderly and Pengkalan Kota residents will have a more comfortable and welcoming space for their recreational activities.
“The installation work started last month and is expected to be completed by mid-December this year. Currently, progress stands at approximately 10%, and we are delighted to share this positive development with the community.
“The project cost of RM161,200 is covered by the council, with support from our Landscaping Department, for which we are grateful.
“Once the lighting is in place, it will enable other community activities to be held seamlessly at the park,” Lim said during a site visit.
Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng also extended his gratitude to MBPP and the council’s Landscaping Department for their efforts in executing this initiative.
“This project allows those who work during the day to rejuvenate themselves with night-time exercise. Addressing residents’ needs is a priority, and we hope to facilitate additional activities such as Zumba sessions here,” Wong said.
Additionally, Wong announced that a rooftop would be constructed near the park to accommodate more events in the future.
“We anticipate its completion by the third quarter of next year. Once the open tender process is concluded, work will commence,” he explained.
