A TOTAL of 2,732 youths have been recruited as the ‘Penang Youth Volunteers’ under the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) programme as of Oct 31 this year.
State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the Penang Youth Volunteers programme was one of the PYDC initiatives to empower the youth in the state.
“Out of the 2,732 youths, 1,452 are male and 1,280 are female.
“In terms of race composition, there are 1,316 youths from the Malay community, Chinese (1,078), Indian (298), and other races (40).
“The volunteer activities carried out by the Penang Youth Volunteers were related to the environment, arts and culture, natural disasters, charity work, education and sports.
“Apart from that, there are also various interesting programmes being planned to improve the skills and knowledge of the youth under the initiative.
“This also includes disaster drill programme, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) training, leadership programme and many others,” Soon told the State Legislative Assembly today.
Soon (PH-Bagan Jermal) said this in response to an oral question by Lim Siew Khim (PH-Sungai Pinang) who wanted to know the total number of youth recruited under the Penang Youth Volunteers programme and the activities that were carried out.
