A DAZZLING display of 345 vibrant Chinese lanterns now adorns the streets of Pulau Tikus, situated within the Bukit Bendera parliamentary constituency, in preparation for the upcoming Chinese New Year.
The mesmerising lanterns illuminate Jalan Pasar, Jalan Burma, and Solok Moulmein, creating a festive atmosphere that captures the spirit of unity and cultural celebration.
The ceremonial lighting of the lanterns took place earlier today and was officiated by Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid, Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Koay Gaik Kee.
Speaking at the event, Syerleena highlighted the significance of the lanterns.
“Lanterns are a powerful symbol of unity. They inspire us to preserve our heritage and celebrate the diversity that defines us as Penangites,” she said.
Meanwhile, Woo revealed that the lantern installation project cost approximately RM50,000, with RM30,000 funded by YB Syerleena’s parliamentary office and RM20,000 sponsored by a private company.
“The lanterns will remain on display for a month, starting from today, allowing both locals and visitors to enjoy this vibrant celebration of culture,” Woo added.
