38 youths to take part in mock Penang State Assembly sitting

AFTER the Youths’ Democrats Workshop was held, a total of 38 participants have been selected to participate in the Youths’ Conference at the Penang State Legislative Building in Light Street on Oct 30.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said that they were selected based on the panellists’ decision after four sessions for the participants physically and virtually since April this year.

“All of them will get their chance to serve as ‘Chief Minister’, ‘exco members’, ‘backbenchers’ and ‘opposition members’ in this coming conference.

“This year’s Youths’ Conference is akin to the state Assembly sitting, which includes sessions on oral question, debate question and winding-up speeches.

“The conference will be chaired by state Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang.

“To enrich their experience, they are also given the opportunity to refer to the state executive councillors to discuss issues that will be raised during the conference. This will be a valuable chance for them to understand the functions and operations of the policies of state government.

“I hope, through this programme, they will be exposed to various civic values.

“I wish them all the best as this is the best platform for them to learn,” he said during a virtual press conference held yesterday.

Soon added that this would improve the perception of the youths towards nation building.
