40 school high achievers from Batu Kawan constituency honoured

A TOTAL of 40 students from the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency were in a jubilant mood this evening as they received awards from Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow for their academic excellence.

 

Known as the Batu Kawan Parliamentary Excellent Student Award (for the 2022 school session), it was open to the children of registered voters in Batu Kawan, including its three constituencies: Perai, Bukit Tengah and Bukit Tambun. Chow also serves as the Batu Kawan MP and the Padang Kota assemblyman.

 

In his speech, Chow congratulated all the 40 students and urged them to study hard to achieve their dreams.

“The Batu Kawan Parliamentary Excellent Student Award is now in its second year, and it reflects the state government’s appreciation for the excellent students in Batu Kawan.

 

“The registration for this initiative was open from Sept 6 until Oct 7 this year, with a total of 45 applications received for the 2022 school session. From these applications, 40 students have been selected to receive the incentives.

 

“Congratulations to all of you today, who deserved this special award.

 

“We hope this token of appreciation will inspire you to excel in your studies and become successful individuals who can make valuable contributions to the state and country,” Chow said before presenting the awards to the students at Iconic Hotel in Bukit Mertajam today.

 

Also present were state Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, who is also the Perai assemblyman, Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao-Leung, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, Chow’s political secretary Lau Keng Ee, Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillor Rachel Teh Chuann Yien, and Batu Kawan parliamentary service centre director Ewe Chee Way.

 

Chow also urged parents to continue to give full support to their children.

 

“This is important so that they can help them to become better and successful person.

 

“Remember, they are our main hope to lead the country and the state one day.

 

“Thus, parents need to play a wise role in supporting whatever course options they are interested in as long as it brings benefits to themselves and the community as a whole,” he said.

 

The Batu Kawan Parliamentary Excellent Student Award (for the 2022 school session) were categorised as follows:

Category I: Standard One to Standard Six (Students received a medal, a certificate and RM100 cash).

Category II: Form One to Form Four (No recipients in this category).

Category III: Form Five (Recipients received a medal, a certificate and RM300 cash).

Category IV: Form Six (Recipients received a medal, a certificate and RM500 cash).

 

In summary, there were 31 recipients for Category I, eight recipients for Category III and one recipient for Category IV.
