THE Penang government will be working out an Emergency Response Plan to ensure that public safety, public health and preservation of environment are observed and complied with during the process of project construction and operation.
The plan will outline conditions to be complied with during emergency crisis caused by natural disasters, accidents and human negligence.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the proposed plan would be in line with the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.
“The plan prioritises life-saving, public health, environment and natural resources, socio-economic development, culture as well as public and private properties.
“A special emergency response committee will be set up to monitor and to ensure that infrastructure projects under the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) comply with the Emergency Response Plan,” Chow replying to an oral question by Ong Khan Lee (PH-Kebun Bunga) during the State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
He added that the committee would be working with the government agencies such as the Department of Environment, Department of Occupational Safety and Health, the police, Fire and Rescue Department, hospitals, state local governments and other technical agencies.
