75 new projects approved for Penang

PENANG has received approval for 75 new projects amounting to RM54.14 million under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12).

 

Caretaker Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said this during his speech at the RMK-12 midterm review engagement session, held at the Olive Tree Hotel in Bayan Lepas today.

 

“The state applied for 126 new projects previously and approval was given for 75 projects recently.

“The 75 approved projects consist of various infrastructure projects that need to be implemented in the state.

 

“We thank the Federal Government, especially the Economy Ministry, for the much-needed approval.

 

“We also hope the Economy Ministry can reconsider approving the remaining projects,” he said.

 

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, who was also present during the RMK-12 midterm review engagement session, said his ministry would consider approving more infrastructure projects for Penang.

“After all, Penang is the key to our economic growth in the country and continues to become the engine of growth for our beloved nation.

 

“The Economy Ministry is currently in the process of reviewing and analysing infrastructure and development projects proposed by every state in the country.

 

“The process started a few months ago and we are at the final stage.

 

“Once the proposed projects have been approved, the allocation will then be disbursed for the projects to be implemented,” Rafizi explained.

 

Also present during the RMK-12 midterm review engagement session were State Secretary Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar, Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk A. Rajendran and caretaker state executive council members – Chong Eng, Yeoh Soon Hin, Soon Lip Chee, and Dr Norlela Ariffin.
