INDUSTRY players are doing their best to support the state and nation in their battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Their emphasis on safety is stronger as they play their role to help Malaysia recover.
One of the manufacturing solutions providers, Jabil Penang, shared its initiatives and safety measures with Buletin Mutiara, in light of the movement control order (MCO).
Jabil Penang managing director S. J. Tan said the company had been granted the permission to operate with strict guidelines during the MCO.
“We are a manufacturing solutions provider that delivers design, manufacturing, supply chain and product management services.
“Our presence in Penang serves the healthcare, capital equipment, computing and storage, defence and aerospace, industrial and energy, and networking and telecommunications industries.
“Our manufacturing solutions and products are in critical demand to support the medical and telecommunications industries,” he said.
Tan said Jabil has a strong safety culture.
“We have detailed briefings with our employees besides putting up education posters and videos about hygiene practices and safety protocols.
“We have prepared self-declaration forms for visitors, employees, customers and vendors since Jan 28, prior to the MCO announcement. The visibility of visitors’ past travel plans helped us to make better risk assessment and if we should approve the visit.
“We conduct temperature checks. Airport-grade thermal scanners are installed at all our entry points. Manual temperature monitoring is practised at dormitories and before embarking into the chartered buses or vans during pick-up.
“We also have sanitiser stations (the placement of hand sanitisers) at all entry point, common areas, walkways, washrooms and high traffic areas,” Tan said in an interview.
Tan added that face masks were provided to all employees at entry points and before embarking into chartered buses or van during pick-up.
“The company also provide employees with complimentary meals three times a day and a packed meal to take home during the MCO. This reduces the risk of potential exposure.
“We ensure that the staff abide by the social distancing protocols – on the production line, common areas, cafeteria, entry and exit points and dormitories. We have staggered break times to ensure that there is no crowding. We also enact work-from-home policies and conduct online meetings.
“Doorknobs, handles, staircase railings, turnstiles and other high-contact surfaces are regularly sanitised. The sanitization of high-contact surfaces is done every two hours.
“We also conduct total plant or building disinfection every two months. Air particle and surface samples are sent to the lab for testing to ensure effective disinfection.
“We conduct supplier audits to ensure that they are also adhering to Jabil’s health and safety protocols.
“Besides that, we ensure that sanitization and wipe down of vehicles are carried out after every pick-up and drop-off,” he said.
