THE Persatuan Kebajikan 88 Kapten Pulau Pinang (88 Captains) is set to launch another beneficial programme for the younger generations to enhance talent development in Penang further.
Its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ooi Eng Hock, mentioned that the organisation would be introducing ‘AI for School (AI4S),’ extending its current programme, the ‘Penang 5G School Digital Library’ initiative.
“Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionise teaching. Through the use of AI-powered tools and strategies, educators can personalise learning, improve students’ outcomes, and ensure success in the digital age,” Ooi said during his speech at the 88 Captains luncheon held at E&O Hotel today.
The Penang 5G School Digital Library programme was launched on May 23, 2023.
Ooi also shared that they would achieve their target of implementing the ‘Penang 5G School Digital Library’ programme in a total of 88 schools in Penang by March. Currently, they have completed the programme in 72 schools.
“As requested by Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh, who is also the state Human Capital Development, Science and Technology Committee chairman, we will expand our programme beyond these 88 schools.
“We will also support the construction of new schools in Penang, namely SJKC Kwang Aik and SJKT Ladang Juru, as well as the building of ViTrox College,” he added.
At the luncheon, 16 donors presented a mock cheque of RM150,000 each to the 88 Captains Education Fund (2024-2025), totaling RM2.4 million.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow praised 88 Captains for their progress within the two years since its establishment on April 7, 2022.
“Just some four months ago, in November last year, I was here in this same hotel to witness the inaugural Scholarship Distribution ceremony by 88 Captains with a total allocation of RM500,000.
Students from Universiti Sains Malaysia, UOW KDU Penang University College, Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management & Technology (TAR UMT), and AIMST University were the recipients and beneficiaries of this scholarship,” Chow said.
Chow also acknowledged OCBC Bank, the sponsoring partner, and YTL Communications, Intel Malaysia, as well as SNS Network for providing the equipment and expertise necessary for the realisation of the Penang 5G School Digital Library programme.
“The state government, through our related agencies, the Penang Digital Library and Penang Science Cluster, fully supports this programme.
“Together, we shall make it happen. Through the combined efforts of 88 Captains and the state government, I am confident our younger generation will have what it takes for Penang to grow bigger and greater,” he added.
The 88 Captains also presented a mock cheque of RM100,000 to Yayasan Amal TYT Pulau Pinang, received by its executive officer Suhaimi Chee Mugther
Also present were Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his consort Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Nor, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, several state executive councillors and state assemblymen, as well as other dignitaries.
