FIVE thousand people are expected to participate in the 9th edition of Glo-Walk, a fun and fundraising event for STEM education, at the Penang City Park (formerly known as Youth Park) on Sept 28 from 5pm, with the flag-off at 7.45pm.
Organised by Tech Dome Penang, this year’s event is themed ‘LightUptheNight2024,’.
Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, who is also a board member of Tech Dome Penang, announced that 4,500 individuals have so far registered, with the registration deadline set for Aug 15.
“We hope to create a brighter future for children through education and innovation. The event aims to highlight the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education in shaping the leaders and innovators of tomorrow,” Teh told a press conference at Tech Dome Penang today.
“Our fundraising goal for the event is RM250,000. We’re actively seeking additional sponsors to help make a significant impact on STEM education initiatives.
“We also thank our sponsors for their generous contributions. This event is endorsed by the state Education Department. Their unwavering support is crucial for the success of the Glo-Walk and helps Tech Dome Penang continue its mission to inspire and educate the community.”
He added that each participant will be given a T-shirt (green, blue, or pink), a glow medal and an LED band to wear during the walk, making them shine brightly in the dark. These special items are designed to enhance the walk experience and create a memorable atmosphere.
The Glo-Walk will feature 22 STEM fun booths, offering hands-on experiments and demonstrations that showcase the wonders of STEM, before the walk begins at 7.45pm.
The event is supported by Platinum sponsors (Greatech and Flex), Gold sponsors (Globetronics and Hotayi), Silver sponsors (Pentamaster, First Solar, NSW, GSH, Panasonic, and VAT), Kind sponsors (McDonalds, Power Root, Cap Helang, UOW KDU University College, and Penang Women’s Development Corporation).
