THE Old Xavierians’ Association (OXA) will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year.

OXA president Datuk Khoo Khay Seang said the association, founded in 1924, is the country’s oldest La Sallian Old Boys Association.

“The association has always been active in corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and aiding the St Xavier’s Institution (SXI).

“Besides that, the association also assist our outstanding junior members through the OXA Education Grant. The applicants must secure placement in higher institutions of learning,” he told Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during a courtesy visit this afternoon.

Khoo and the OXA committee members paid a courtesy call on Chow to invite him to the upcoming anniversary celebration.

Chow lauded the association and the school for their achievements and commitment to society.

“The setting up of the Hall of Gratitude at the former ping-pong area of SXI was an amazing work.”

It was reported that the hall features the names of some 35,000 students who studied there, including royalties from Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, and Selangor who called SXI their alma mater.

Chow also highlighted the state’s allocation to assist various types of schools in Penang.

“The funds are being given to assist the schools, specifically to offer more facilities, to provide a better learning environment for the students,” Chow said.

He also congratulated the OXA for achieving a significant milestone.
