A deeper understanding on Penang

NORWAY hopes to foster closer relationships with Penang following a strong business presence in Malaysia.

Norwegian Ambassador to Malaysia Gunn Jorid Roset said Norway’s business presence in Malaysia, particularly in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, was strong.

“Recently we had an in-depth discussion with the Penang Economic Planning Unit and investPenang and we learnt a lot about Penang,” she said during her courtesy visit on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at his office today.

She also congratulated Chow on his appointment as the Penang Chief Minister.

The 30-minute discussion touched on several issues such as the Penang Transport Master Plan, the current political scenario in Malaysia, the state’s tourism industry, flood mitigation projects and Penang’s investment interests.

Chow said Penang would continue to be proactive in pursuing investors to invest in Penang.

“The state’s investment ecosystem is strong. We have been getting a lot of investment enquiries because of the United States-China trade war,” he said.

Chow also highlighted the proposed Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT) expansion project, in which Penang Port Sdn Bhd entered a joint venture with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCCL) to redevelop the SPCT.
