OVER 200 participants will bring their chickens to take part in the National Serama Chicken Art and Beauty Competition at the Pusat Eko Pelancongan (Tourism Eco Centre) in Kampung Setui, Pinang Tunggal, on May 25 from 10am to 6pm.
Organised by the Chief Minister’s Special Coordinating Officer’s Office, the event aims to boost Penang’s tourism.
Chief Minister’s Special Coordinating Officer Lay Hock Peng said the competition, supported by State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, could enhance the north Seberang Perai (SPU) economy.
Lay also mentioned that there would be a lucky draw and cash prizes for the winners.
“The top three finishers in each category will receive cash prizes of RM400, RM300 and RM200 respectively. The registration fee for each chicken is RM50.
“A lucky draw for a motorcycle and electrical goods worth RM10,000 will be available with any purchase at the food and beverage stalls.
“We have arranged around 20 diverse food and drink stalls and will provide coupons for attendees on that day,” Lay said during a press conference yesterday.
Lay took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the government agencies for their support of the event.
Organising committee member Muhammad Zarif Iman Mohamad Zapri said the Serama chickens will be judged based on their artistry and cleanliness.
“Serama chickens are renowned for their chest posture and beautiful feathers.
“Six judges from the Serama Chicken Association, hailing from Kelantan, Perlis, Selangor, and Penang, will oversee the judging process.
“There will be six categories, from chicks to full-fledged chicken,” explained Muhammad Zarif Iman.
Muhammad Zarif anticipated more participants to make walk-in registration, adding to the liveliness of the occasion. Besides enjoying the competition, visitors can explore attractions, particularly in north Seberang Perai.
