IN less than a week, Penang is set to usher in the George Town Heritage Celebrations 2024 on July 7, marking its 16th annual celebration since its inception as a World Heritage Site.
George Town, well-known for its cultural diversity, is expected to host various exciting events in the heritage enclave this month.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai proudly announced the major events, including interactive performances and cultural workshops.
“This main George Town Heritage Celebrations 2024 will take place this Sunday, from 5.30pm to 10pm. We expect locals and international visitors to catch a glimpse of the celebration.
“There will be plenty of cultural workshops and performances for the public to understand the cultural value of George Town.
“We are ready to celebrate the occasion filled with colourful performances,” he said at a press conference in Komtar.
The major events are Festival Kraf Pulau Pinang 2024, Meng Eng Soo Open Day 2024, A Day at the Fort in conjunction with George Town World Heritage Day, George Town Festival, Penang Hill Festival 2024, Bon Odori Pop-Up Fest, and Penang Bon Odori Festival 2024.
Among those present during the press conference were festival director Chin Teo, George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) Cultural Heritage Research and Development Department manager Ng Boon Nee, and GTWHI Communications and Collaborations Department acting manager Quah Swee Leang.
