Are you looking forward to experiencing the eerie atmosphere of the Hungry Ghost Festival in Penang? If so, head over to Jalan Gurdwara near Menara Perdana, right in the heart of George Town!
For the first time during this spooky month, vibrant and haunting scenes of Hungry Ghost Festival have been set up along the sidewalks on Gurdwara Road.
This unique spot has quickly become one of Penang’s most Instagrammable locations, thanks to the ghostly display installed along the walkway.
This initiative, led by Persatuan Menyambut Perayaan Phor Thor George Town Pulau Pinang, aims to foster a close bond of relationship among the community and to promote the annual festival.
The association’s secretary, Tiffany Keh, told Buletin Mutiara that it was important to promote the festival creatively.
“This is one of our ways to attract the people, especially the younger generation to appreciate the significance of the festival.
“We also hope to try something new so that people can understand and value the festival,” she said.
A visit by Buletin Mutiara revealed various interactive artworks related to the festival on display. Passers-by and tourists were seen seizing the opportunity to capture photos of these once-a-year festival artworks.
Keh also mentioned that a grand event is scheduled for Aug 23 at 8pm.
“Cultural and lion dance performances will be held, along with other interactive and educational activities. These events aim to address superstitions and highlight the festival’s core values of compassion and remembrance,” she said.
