A musical celebration on Merdeka Day

THOUSANDS of visitors celebrated their Merdeka holiday with a delightful musical affair at the Majestic Theater in George Town.

The power-packed musical performance, ‘OlaBola The Musical’, is the adaption of the movie, Ola Bola. The film showcases the unity and fighting spirit of the Malaysia football team – ‘Harimau Malaya’.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and state Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin were the special guests who joined hundreds of spectators for the 5pm show today.

A total of 2,400 free passes were distributed for the shows at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm. Each show was limited to 800 visitors.

Penang was the first destination for the ‘OlaBola Merdeka Tour’. Next, the performers will be heading to Kuching to perform three shows at Stadium Perpaduan Kuching from Sept 6 to 8.

Over at the Majestic Theater today, football legends Datuk Shukor Salleh and Datuk Namat Abdullah, made a surprise presence during the play; drawing huge cheers from the crowd.

The performance was beautifully crafted by renowned film and musical theatre producer Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina.

Those present were moved by the background score, stunning football match sequence and dialogues.

The ‘message’ received from the musical performance was clear –  ‘United we stand, divided we fall’.

The team will be performing in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on Sept 11 before their final stop in Kuantan, Pahang, on Sept 21.
