THE Corner Club Penang reached a significant milestone with the grand opening of its new clubhouse on Jalan Kelawei, a modern facility designed to enhance members’ social and recreational experiences.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who commended the club for its long-standing contributions to the community and business sector since its establishment in 1938 by the late Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew and a group of Fujian entrepreneurs.
“The new clubhouse represents not only an upgrade in facilities but also the club’s commitment to evolving with the times.
“With state-of-the-art amenities, including high-end business, dining, entertainment and fitness facilities, this venue will further promote a vibrant social culture among its members,” Chow said.
He further noted that Penang’s economic growth relies on collective efforts from various sectors, and organisations like The Corner Club Penang serve as platforms for encouraging collaborations.
“As a globalised city, Penang continues to attract investors in high-tech, manufacturing, tourism and healthcare industries. This is built on a strong industrial foundation, particularly in the semiconductor sector, which remains a major draw for foreign investment,” Chow said.

With Malaysia assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship this year, Chow further stressed the importance of leveraging this opportunity to strengthen regional economic ties and enhance the nation’s global trade position.
“Last year, the state government launched the Penang SiliconDesign@5km+ initiative to further optimise the local industrial ecosystem and drive innovation in high-tech industries. Alongside infrastructure improvements and talent development, these efforts aim to ensure sustainable economic growth,” Chow added.

The Corner Club Penang president Tan Sri Lim Gait Tong expressed his gratitude to the state leadership and club members for their continuous support, emphasising that the new clubhouse is a symbol of progress and unity.

“Since its founding, The Corner Club Penang has witnessed Penang’s transformation from the colonial era to nationhood and now as a thriving economic hub. Our club has always been at the forefront, contributing to both the business community and social welfare,” he said.
He noted that beyond offering a premier space for leisure and networking, The Corner Club Penang also remains committed to its long-standing tradition of philanthropy, including contributions to education and charity initiatives.
“Looking ahead, we aim to strengthen our role as a bridge for business collaborations and social development. We also hope to further promote cultural exchange and racial harmony, ensuring Penang remains a prosperous and cohesive society,” he added.

The event concluded with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and a tour of the new clubhouse, which boasts four-star hotel-grade facilities, blending heritage with modern luxury.
Also present at the event were former Penang Chief Minister and deputy president of The Corner Club Penang, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, former state executive councillor Datuk Dr Loh Hock Hun, along with other club office bearers and members.
