SPEAKING about becoming a chef, one would imagine himself or herself being fully white attired with a very eye catching toque blanche preparing the finest dishes in the kitchen.
Hence, it’s not a common scene when one gets to see our chefs in their white uniform letting their hair down and mingling among themselves and with guests as what happened during the Penang Chefs Association (PCA) annual dinner in Balik Pulau.
The year 2018 is definitely worth celebrating by our talented men and women of superb culinary skills as the PCA did well and accomplished a string of achievements of international stature.
According to PCA president Chef Audee Cheah, members of the PCA especially the juniors have won accolades for Malaysia and Penang where in April, the Penang Team won the Bronze Medal in Gourmet Team Challenge during the prestigious Food Hotel Asia 2018.
In July, Penang also won the Gold Medal in the 1st Asian Gourmet Food Challenge 2018 which took place in Jakarta and returned as overall 1st Runner-up. Penang also did well by winning Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in the recently concluded Ningbo International Young Chefs Challenge in October.
“The Penang state government acknowledge the effort and initiative taken by PCA towards the promotion, education and uplifting the quality and standards shown in the numerous activities and competitions that you have participated and won,” Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said in his speech as the guest of honour.
“Your contributions have been well noted by the state and we hope to be able to have a healthier engagement with PCA in 2019,” he added.
Also present were Indera Kayangan assemblyman Gan Aye Ling and organising chairman Chef Lee Chan Wai.
