THE crime thriller ‘A Place Called Silence’, primarily shot in Penang, is achieving great success in China, raking in a remarkable RMB 1.2 billion within just three weeks of its release.
In a media release, director Sam Quah mentioned that the film premiered in Beijing and was simultaneously released nationwide in China.
“It received an enthusiastic response in terms of box office performance and reviews, significantly boosting its performance on the second and third days.
“I want to thank the audience for their support and recognition. I hope the box office of ‘A Place Called Silence’ will continue to grow in the coming weeks!
“This strong support makes us even more eager to return to Malaysia and meet everyone. I believe Malaysian audience, especially those in Penang, will also enjoy this film,” Quah said.
He said that the success of ‘A Place Called Silence’ exceeded his expectations.
Quah expressed his gratitude to the crew for their full cooperation and acknowledged the crucial support from the Penang government during filming.
“The main actors would be engaging in extensive publicity in China throughout July, hoping that the star power would further boost the box office. The cast is expected to visit Malaysia soon for publicity events and to meet with fans,” he added.
Penang-native executive producer Ewe Boon Wee also expressed his gratitude for the support from the audience, which helped the film achieve over RMB 1.2 billion within three weeks.
Like Quah, he eagerly anticipates the enthusiastic support and recognition from Malaysian audience upon their return.
‘A Place Called Silence’ is directed by Sam Quah, with a screenplay by Sam Quah, Wang Zhi Zhi, and Wang Yi Meng. It stars Wang Chuan Jun (Eric Wang), Ning Chang, and Francis Ng, with Wang Sheng Di in a leading role. Cai Ming and Chin Shih-chieh make special appearances, while Justin Huang, Xu Jiao, Alan Aruna, and Wang Chengsi have special roles. Sean Ren and Ewe Boon Wee serve as executive producers, with Yang Jun as the producer.
