CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow, together with his state executive councillors and assemblymen, today visited Sia Boey – the first urban archaeological park in Malaysia, during their dinner break from the State Legislative Assembly sitting.
Upon arriving at about 7.30pm from Dewan Sri Pinang, Chow and his team, clad in a formal attire, were greeted warmly by those present at the site.
They took a brisk walk at the place, which has come alive once more after its refurbishment initiative.
They also went on to pose for some photographs at the newly-completed landscaped playground.
Most conspicuous was the clean canal running through the site, which was filled with tilapia and some local koi. It is one of the attractions for many a visitor to the site.
After visiting the site, which had undergone a major rehabilitation process, Chow and his entourage returned for another session of the assembly sitting.
The renewed Sia Boey also serves as a green lung for the town folk in the vicinity.
The rejuvenation effort to transform Sia Boey as well as to conserve its heritage began on March 25 last year.
The project was undertaken by Penang Development Corporation (PDC) in collaboration with George Town World Heritage Site (GTWHI).
