ABBOTT Medical Device Division Penang will continue to grow and expand its operations guided by its policy of ‘Built As If Intended For My Family.’
Its managing director Eow Hu Teik said this when he briefed visiting Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow on the operations of the Penang plant at Lebuhraya Kampung Jawa in Bayan Lepas Industrial Zone this morning.
Later, the Chief Minister was also taken on a tour of the plant. Also present was investPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian.
Abbott Penang, which acquired St Jude Medical Inc in January 2017, now employs some 1,020 employees. Its core business and products involve nutrition, diagnostics, vascular care, diabetes care, pharmaceuticals and vision.
Its key products include pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), insertable cardiac monitors (ICMs), leads, multi-lead trial cables for spinal cord stimulation and printed circuit boards (PCBs) for pacemakers.
“The plant in Penang is the only manufacturing site for pacing devices in Asia.
“Abbott hopes to have a full offering of innovative devices to keep the heart beating at a healthy pace,” Eow said.
