Aemulus’ R&D expansion supports the state govt’s focus on Industry 4.0

AEMULUS Holdings Berhad aims to rise further in the Automated Test Equipment (ATE) market as it is investing RM35million from 2017 to 2021 in research and development (R&D) and its business infrastructure.

Following the purchase of a piece of 1.62 acres of land in Bayan Lepas Industrial Park two years ago, the local-based corporation has purposed to expand on R&D, attract and retain talents based on its strategic location and also enhance its supply chain management.

The move would also enable Aemulus and its subsidiary to build and have its own corporate office building under one roof in Bayan Lepas Industrial Park.

The completely different concept with its rooftop garden, cafe, running track and deluxe shower suites, from other corporations would make it stand out among all corporations.

“We are a cohort of tech-innovators and this expansion will bolster our objectives to serve our customers with compelling ATE test solutions and test ecosystem.

“Construction of this Aemulus Base is expected to be completed within 12 months,” said Aemulus chief executive officer Ng Sang Beng in his speech prior to the groundbreaking ceremony.

The strategic location near to the Penang International Airport (PIA) would also enable a covenient logistic acessibility.

Aemulus would also be tapping into the skilled labour force as the corporation plans to increase its headcount to 500 people from 140 currently.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng speaking after the groundbreaking ceremony.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was present, said Aemulus’ decision to invest RM35 million is a testament to the business confidence in the government.

He said the facility to be built proves that the high level of business confidence exists in the country currently and also towards the state’s access to excellent infrastructure and skilled talent.

“I am excited to see the expansion of Aemulus because it is one of the industries that support the government’s focus on Industry 4.0,” said Lim.

“These are the kinds of high-skilled jobs the government is looking forward to create to meet rising expectation of all workers.”

Also present were state Domestic and International Trade, Consumer Affairs and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain and Aemulus chairman Chok Kwee Bee.

Touching on expansion of the airport in Bayan Lepas, Lim told reporters that open tender would be called this year.

“The airport’s feasibility study had been done,” he said, adding that it would be funded through private financing initiative (PFI).

Lim mentioned the state would have its own edge and attractiveness to compete when asked for his comment on the Kedah’s plan to build the Kulim International Airport.

Meanwhile, Lim also condemned the ruckus that broke out in Universiti Malaya (UM) yesterday.
