CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow has expressed hopes that the Air Itam Dam water capacity can reach 50% capacity by May this year under the Air Itam Dam Action Plan 2024.

He said the water level at the dam is now 37% after a lesser water drawdown.

“Last night’s 11.5mm rainfall at Air Itam Dam, 47mm at Mengkuang Dam and 3mm at Teluk Bahang Dam has brought some relief.

“Therefore, we hope the situation will get better, and eventually hit 50% by May,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the appointment of the Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK) and the Youth Committees (JBPP) at Wawasan Open University today.

Chow anticipates April to bring much-needed rainfall for the state although he acknowledges the unpredictability due to climate change.

On the possibility of another round of cloud seeding, Chow mentioned that the state was still monitoring the situation, especially after the rainfall recently.

As for heatstroke cases in Penang, Chow confirms no reports of such incidents at the moment.
