SINCE 2016, residents at the Desa Mawar apartment in Air Itam have benefitted from the Penang Maximum 80% Maintenance Fund (TPM80PP) for lift upgrading works.

A total of RM930,960 has been spent since 2016 on lift upgrading works there, with the state government having paid RM744,768 and the remaining RM186,192 paid by the Joint Management Body (JMB).

The 26-year-old apartment has five blocks, each 19 floors tall, and has a total of 1,206 units.

Some RM226,840 was spent to upgrade the lift at Block 1 in 2016, while in 2022, the upgrading of two units of lifts at Blocks 2 and 6 was completed at RM320,000.

The latest upgrading works, which started in June last year and was completed in November, involve two units of lifts at Blocks 3 and 5 at a cost of RM384,120.

Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng expressed his gratitude to the state government for its unwavering commitment to meeting the needs of Desa Mawar residents, particularly prioritising the maintenance of crucial facilities. He made these remarks following a press conference held this morning near the apartment complex.

Meanwhile, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, who was also present, expressed his delight over the completion of the lift upgrading works, which is deemed vital for residents in any high-rise buildings.

Typically, through the TPM80PP fund, the state government covers 80% of the total project cost, while the JMB contributes the remaining 20%.
