PENANG will be holding a series of events in conjunction with the International Women’s Day (IWD) that is observed worldwide on March 8.

State Women & Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness & Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng said Penang, as always, is committed to organising various programmes during IWD to cherish women’s contributions.

“The ultimate objective of our commitment to IWD is to show our appreciation to all women who had made sacrifices and contributions to every aspect of our lives, let it be in the family, workplace or society at large.

“This year marks the eighth year Penang is celebrating IWD since it debuted in 2013 and I would like to thank the people of Penang for their overwhelming support for our campaign (IWD),’’ Chong Eng told a press conference today.

Chong Eng also said it was important for women to become the game changer to create a level playing field.

“The state has already adopted the Gender Inclusiveness Policy in mainstreaming gender in public policies, programmes and projects to ensure gender perspective and needs are taken into consideration.

“This year, the campaign will be having the first-ever ‘Sidang Wanita in the State’ which is specially designed to simulate processes of nomination to represent at the state assembly.

“Malaysian women, who are above 18 years old, can visit Penang Women Development Corporation (PWDC) facebook or IWD 2020 Calendar for more information.

“The public can also refer to the calendar by scanning a QR code on the IWD 2020 poster or else by referring to the link shared on the facebook (PWDC) to check on the programme line-up,’’ she added.

According to Chong Eng, the IWD celebration will be grander this year as it has the full support of all Women and Family Development Committees (JPWKs) in Penang.

“This year, all of the 40 JPWKs will be organising various activities pertaining to women development in their respective constituencies,’’ said Chong Eng, who is also the Padang Lalang assemblyman.
