Alliance Bank’s first-ever Heritage Run attracts overwhelming response

ALLIANCE Bank Malaysia Berhad announced today that it will hold its inaugural Alliance Bank Heritage Run 2023 at the Esplanade in George Town on Oct 29 with a participation of 3,500 runners.

The run will be held along the scenic and historical routes around George Town, offering both the 3km event and the 7km event.

The bank, being community-centric, aims to make a positive impact on society, the environment and the economy through this event.

Alliance Bank chief executive officer Kellee Kam expressed the bank’s commitment to building a more sustainable world by promoting environmentally responsible actions, positive social ethics and good governance.

“Our inaugural Heritage Run not only embodies our values but also supports SDG 11.4 – which focuses on safeguarding and protecting cultural and natural heritage at risk.

“Hence, the selection of George Town as the venue for our first flagship run was an obvious choice given that it is one of the World Heritage Sites recognised by UNESCO.

“To further promote this cultural heritage, the bank will be working with a local artist to create a mural for a dedicated heritage site or community centre in Penang,” Kam said in a press release.

Pearly Ong, the Head of Group Communications, Editorial & Intranet Group Strategy, Business Development, Performance Management & Marketing at the bank, visited Buletin Mutiara office in Komtar today and revealed that the bank has commissioned local artist Abdul Rashid to create a multiracial-themed mural. Additionally, participants will also have the opportunity to this collaborative artwork by adding their own creative touch to the mural.

Ong, accompanied by Joanne Lim Ee Wei, the Assistant Vice-President, Group Communications, Editorial and Intranet Group Strategy, Business Development, Performance Management & Marketing, was warmly received by Yap Lee Ying, the state Communications Division director and Chief Minister’s press secretary.

“We were surprised when we received an overwhelming response within a few days after calling for entries.

“This is the first-ever Heritage Run organised by Alliance Bank. As George Town is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, it only makes sense to hold the event here.

“Moreover, the choice of George Town complements the bank’s focus on the northern corridor, and the event is in line with its sustainable theme,” Ong said.

In keeping with its sustainability theme, registered participants will receive race packs consisting of reusable canvas bags, medals made from sustainable wood as well as T-shirts and lanyards made out of upcycled materials.

The run will also feature other activities, such as a trishaw ride and walkabout tour for the media, face painting and exciting telematches for the public, and food and beverage stalls.
