SOUTHEAST Asia’s leading fully integrated chemical company Ancom Nylex Berhad through its subsidiary Ancom Crop Care Sdn Bhd has awarded 27 Penang-born students its scholarships to help finance their university education.

The presentation ceremony for the Ancom Crop Care Penang Scholarship Programme took place today at St Giles The Wembley Hotel in George Town, with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in attendance.

The 27 students are pursuing degree programmes at various universities, covering a diverse range of disciplines such as law, pharmacy, computer science, banking and finance, engineering, psychology, and multimedia communications.

Ancom Nylex Berhad Group chief executive officer and Ancom Crop Care managing director Datuk Lee Cheun Wei expressed the company’s pride in focusing its efforts on supporting students from Penang and its commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders.

“We are particularly honoured to play a role in helping these young individuals achieve their aspirations,” Lee said during his speech.

He noted that most of the scholarship recipients are first-year university students, with some in their second or third year.

“The students we celebrate today have earned their places at various universities through sheer determination, hard work, and resilience.

“They have shown us that circumstances do not define one’s potential – it is the strength of character, ambition, and a thirst for learning that truly matter.

“For students from financially underprivileged families, the dream of tertiary education often seems distant.

“This programme ensures that financial constraints will not stand in the way of their aspirations. It serves as a lifeline for those with talent, determination, and the will to succeed,” he added.

Lee emphasised that the scholarship programme represents a cornerstone of Ancom Nylex Group’s broader commitment to social responsibility.

“We aim to continue expanding our impact in the years to come, reaching more students and touching more lives.

“After all, education is not merely about personal success; it is about the collective upliftment of society.

“When we empower one, we empower all. Let us continue working together to create a brighter, more equitable future for generations to come,” he concluded.

It is learnt that the scholarship offers tuition fees up to a maximum of RM10,000 for the duration of the course.

All Penang-born students who have successfully obtained admission to a degree programme at any government or private local university qualify to apply for the scholarships.

They can enrol in any field, except for medicine and dentistry. The courses must be recognised by Malaysian Qualification Accreditation (MQA) and the Ministry of Higher Education.

Meanwhile, Chow said the event today holds a special place in his heart, as it reflects the very values embedded in the Penang2030 vision.

“Education is the key that unlocks the golden door to freedom. For the 27 scholarship recipients here today, that key has been firmly placed in your hands, opening the door to a brighter future for you, your families, and our beloved Penang.

“Today, we celebrate not only the achievements of 27 outstanding young individuals but also the unwavering commitment of Ancom Crop Care to nurturing Penang’s youth.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Ancom Crop Care for its remarkable generosity and vision.

“Through the Ancom Crop Care Penang Scholarship Programme, you are investing not only in these young individuals but also in the future of our state,” said Chow.

Chow also expressed his hopes that the scholarship programme would inspire other organisations to step forward and contribute to the well-being and development of the community.
