MORE than 100 representatives from various associations in Penang gathered today at the Penang Overseas Chinese Anti-War Memorial World Remembrance Day at the Air Itam War Memorial Park.

Held annually on Nov 11, the significant occasion commemorates the members of the armed forces who lost their lives during the Japanese Occupation.

Penang Tourism and Creative Economy chairman Wong Hon Wai, representing Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at the solemn ceremony, paid tribute to the fallen heroes.

“These brave individuals made great sacrifices during those difficult times, and their contributions must always be respected and remembered.

“They perished while protecting our country, and we deeply admire their courage,” Wong said before paying his respects alongside the state delegation.

Wong also announced a contribution of RM20,000 towards the maintenance of the Air Itam War Memorial Park.
