PENANG captured its third gold in the 2022 Malaysia Inter-state Bowling Championships today when Megat Zaqrul Haiqal and Muhd Hariz Adlan triumphed in the boys’ doubles at the Sunway Megalanes in Petaling Jaya.
Megat and Hariz, who finished one-two in the boys’ singles yesterday, teamed up to score a winning total of 2,362 pinfalls. Out of that, Hariz contributed 1,200 while Megat contributed 1,162.
Penang had earlier took the women’s singles gold through Nur Amirul Auni yesterday.
The silver medal in the boys’ doubles was won by the Kuala Lumpur pair of Haikal Hazlan (1219) and Muhammad Hazim Ali (1119) for a total of 2330 – 32 pinfalls behind the Penang duo.
Sarawak’s pair of Tsen Fan Yew (1,239) and Abang Afiq Yazid Abang (1080) combined to score 2,319 total to claim the bronze medal.
Penang Tenpin Bowling Association honorary secretary Cheah Ban Cheng said Megat and Hariz complemented each other well today.
“As the game progressed, its lanes oiling condition yielded. But Megat and Hariz coordinated well and kept their nerves,” Cheah said.
Timmy Tan of Kuala Lumpur, who bagged the men’s singles gold yesterday, added another gold to his collection when he partnered Rafiq Ismail to claim the men’s doubles gold. They posted the winning score of 2,393.
Abner Loo Chun Lik and Daniel Tan Yan Han of Sarawak came second with a total score of 2388 while Syed Muhammad Hafiz and Muhd Nur Aiman of Johor finished third with 2370.
