STATE Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo officially announced today that the state government will be contributing RM150,240 to help upgrade four units of water tanks at the Wisma Lam Hong Apartment in George Town.
According to the Datok Keramat assemblyman, the upgrading works are expected to cost RM187,800.
“Under the Penang Maximum 80% Maintenance Fund (TPM80PP), the state government will pay 80% (RM150,240), while the Joint Management Body (JMB) will pay 20% (RM37,560).
“But as the representative in this area, I have another good news to share, which is that instead of the residents having to pay the remaining 20%, I will do it for them.
“This is just one of the many ways for me to show my commitment towards the residents living in my constituency,” Jagdeep said in his speech during a brief press conference at the apartment premises today.
According to Jagdeep, the initiative (TPM80PP) which was started by the Penang government in 2010, has been receiving encouraging responses.
“As of now, under this fund, a total of RM64.84 million has been spent by the Penang government, involving 682 projects,” he added.
In a related development, Jagdeep said that the Penang government has spent RM332.84 million on various housing maintenance funds.
The RM332.84 million includes maintenance works for housing schemes under Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), all private and public housing schemes and the Penang Maximum 80% Maintenance Fund (TPM80PP).
Also present during the press conference was Penang Housing Board chief operational officer Mohd Fauzy Mohd Yusoff.
