THE contributions of parliamentarians often go unnoticed, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
“We can only form a government when the number of parliamentarians is more than that of the Opposition.
“They are the voice of the people who do not only argue against the MP’s from the Opposition but also the Ministers.
“Thus, they play a pivotal role in defending the policies that bring benefits to the public.
“This is because Parliament is the place whereby laws will be approved,” said Chow at the Bukit Gelugor Chinese New Year open house today.
Apart from that, Chow reminded those present that the role senators play is no less important than the MPs.
“I would like to commend Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh for his significant contribution as a MP,” Chow added.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, who also attended the function, stated that the Malaysian government has been ranked 51st in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI).
“Previously, we were ranked as 61 in the CPI and now we have moved 10 places higher. This was possible due to the clean administration of the Pakatan Harapan government,” Guan Eng said in his speech at the event.
Host of the open house, Ramkarpal affirmed his stand on safeguarding the rights of the vernacular schools in Malaysia.
Hundreds of visitors from the neighbourhood of Bukit Gelugor were treated to a scrumptious lunch at the event.
Also present were state Local Government, Housing, Town and Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, state Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng and Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim.
