THE Penang Sports Camping and Recreation Association chairman has expressed its desire to work with the state government to promote family-based camping activities.

Its chairman Leow Beng Hock said camping would be an ideal activity for families to spend quality time with each other.

“Camping would provide a perfect time for family bonding, especially between parents and children.

“It will also provide the chance for the youngsters to explore nature. Most of them nowadays are inclined towards internet related activities.

“So, our association would like to promote camping among the people,” said Leow when he paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today at his office.

Leow also said that the Penang Sports Camping and Recreation Association is environmental-conscious and ensured that activities conducted by the association would not harm the environment.

“For instance, we make sure that the setting up of the campfire does not destroy the ground at the camping site.

“We teach people to be more responsible,” he added.

Apart from that, Leow proposed to the state government to create camping sites at the parks under the administration of the local councils – Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).

Chow warmly welcomed the association’s desire to further promote camping in the state.

Chow said the Penang Sports Camping and Recreation Association can work together with the state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee and Penang State Sports Council (PSCC) to promote camping activities

“We need to have a proper policy on camping before promoting it. Camping has many levels of difficulties.

“The Penang Sports Camping and Recreation Association can work together with the state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee and Penang State Sports Council (PSCC) to promote camping activities,” he said.

Penang State Sports Council (PSCC) director Harry Chai, who was also present, has offered the Pusat Kegiatan Sukan Air (PKSA) area in Tanjung Bungah to be used as a camping site.

“The place is also a site for camping and if your association would like to use it, you are welcome to use it,” said Chai.

Meanwhile, Soon said camping could help to build one’s self-confidence as well as reduces stress level and at the same time make one bolder.
