THE Association of Tourism Attractions Penang (ATAP) is expanding its collaborations with various stakeholders to further promote the state as a tourism forefront.
Its chairman Datuk Ch’ng Huck Theng said aside from its partnership with the usual tourism operators, ATAP was keen to work with others as well.
“We are now collaborating with the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry Northern Branch (Penang) to expand the tourism network.
“We want to tap Penang’s potential as a favourite tourism place, and to attract tourists to the state.
“It is everything about the creative economy now and we (ATAP) will do our best,” he told reporters after attending the launch of Horizon Redefined at The Wembley St Giles Hotel last night.
Ch’ng had inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MICCI Northern Branch (Penang) earlier.
He added that ATAP had played its part when tourism came to a virtual standstill for over two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Although we are a small entity, we tried our best to assist our ATAP members during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
ATAP has currently 57 members.
Earlier, state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, who was present, was delighted to celebrate the resumption of activities.
“The state’s economy has shown signs of great improvement since the end of last year and as such, we hope to see better results.
“ATAP has been instrumental in getting as much help for their members and the industry,” he said.
Yeoh said he also looked forward to the World Congress of Information Technology (WCIT) 2022 to be held in Penang next month.
