MORE than RM20,000 allocation was spent on some 250 underprivileged pupils in the Sungai Pinang constituency.

Each of them received RM95 cash voucher from their elected representative while another 250 of them received RM150 voucher aid each from Pusat Zakat Negeri Pulau Pinang (ZPP).

Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim said the annual back-to-school aid programme has started since 2013 with the aim of easing the burden on poor families and also from the B40 group.

“The back-to-school aid programme involves six schools around the area of Sungai Pinang.

“The schools are SJK(C) Beng Teik Cawangan, SJK(C) Moh Ghee Branch, SJK(C) Moh Ghee (Pusat), SJK(C) Phei Shin, SK Jelutong and SJK(T) River Road.

“The children’s parents can use the vouchers to purchase school bags, uniforms, water bottles, lunch boxes and stationery for them.

“Thus, I hope this aid programme will help parents to prepare their children for the 2020 school year,” Lim told reporters after the cash vouchers’ presentation at the Sungai Pinang activity centre in George Town recently.

Apart from the vouchers’ aid, Lim said her constituency has also prepared a free haircut for the children to prepare them for the new school term.

“Since the school will resume soon, we have prepared free haircuts for them, parents also can join it,” she added.
