THE level of discipline among those market-goers in Balik Pulau wet market is getting better compared to the early days of the movement control order (MCO) which began over two weeks ago.
Many were seen observing a one-metre social distancing when lining up to get into the market.
The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) enforcement officers, working alongside the police, army and Civil Defence Department personnel, manned the entrance of the market to ensure everyone adhere to regulations.
A check by Buletin Mutiara inside the market complex showed that many folks were following the regulations and leaving the place soon after getting their foodstuff.
Pulau Betong assemblyman Mohd Tuah Ismail, when met at the market, told Buletin Mutiara that he went to the site frequently to check on the situation.
“From what I see today, the level of awareness among the people is getting better while social distancing is adhered to.
“At the market, we also set up a special lane for senior citizens. We give them priority.
“This shows the state’s effort in trying control the situation and break the chain of infection,” he said.
Mohd Tuah also thanked the state for initiating a RM75 million stimulus package aid for Penangites as it is concerned with the plight of certain quarters.
“It is one of the ways for the state to lend a helping hand to the needy during this challenging period,” he added.
