Bank opens new branch in Penang

PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated the grand opening ceremony of the China Construction Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (Penang branch) in the state.

 

It is the first China Construction Bank branch in Penang and is located at the Boustead Tower at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah in George Town.

 

The opening ceremony was held at the Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Hotel this evening.

 

“The state government has drawn up the development blueprint for Penang and we look forward to China Construction Bank working closely with us for our active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative.

 

“The establishment of this branch in Penang will boost the coverage of China Construction Bank in the northern region of Malaysia.

 

“As a result, this would enable China Construction Bank to provide better financial services to the local area, promote regional investment and trade development, and contribute further to the friendship between our two countries,” he said.

 

Also present during the opening ceremony were Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, state Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim, Chinese Acting Consul-General in Penang Madam Ding Qiao, China Construction Bank Corporation chairman Tian Guoli and China Construction Bank Malaysia Berhad chief executive officer Wang Qijie.

 

Chow also expressed his heartiest congratulations to China Construction Bank on the opening of its first branch in Penang.

“China and Malaysia enjoy a close friendship and are committed towards a win-win cooperation which benefits both countries.

 

“With the support of our two governments, China Construction Bank has successfully established its presence in Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.

 

“Over the past six years, the bank has actively supported the construction of major projects and the development of national industries with a focus on environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) approach to promote China-Malaysia bilateral trade.

 

“Such measures have also been instrumental for our economic, social development and cultural exchanges between our two countries,” said Chow.

 

Meanwhile, Tian said China Construction Bank (Penang branch) is looking forward to working closely with the state government in various key areas for the development of the state.
