THE Ayer Itam constituency service centre, in collaboration with Kam Fook Badminton Academy, will be holding a four-day basic badminton training programme from March 16 to 19.
Ayer Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang said the programme is open to 60 children, aged eight to 12 on a first come, first served basis. He said last year, his service centre held a swimming programme.
“We want to hold the badminton programme for the children during the coming school holidays. It is to teach them the basics, like the correct way or skills to play the game, and also for them not to be always using their gadgets to play virtual games,” Soon Siang told reporters at his service centre in Ayer Itam today.
“Through this programme, we hope to unearth talents so that they could be groomed to be future champions like Datuk Lee Chong Wei or Goh Jin Wei.
“As this badminton basic training programme is held by the Ayer Itam constituency service centre, priority will be given to the pupils from Ayer Itam.”
Ng Kam Fook, a former national player with a wealth of coaching experience, said he would be assisted by two assistant coaches.
Pupils who are interested to attend the training need to get the forms from the Ayer Itam constituency service centre and register themselves. At the end of the programme, they will receive certificate of participation.
The first session for 30 players is from 8.30am to 10.30am and the second session for the next 30 players is from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Both sessions will be held at the Kam Fook Badminton Academy located on the uppermost floor of the multi-storey car park at Farlim Business Centre.
