THE Penang Chefs Association (PCA) will be holding the Battle of the Chefs 2020 at the SPICE Arena in Relau on Oct 8 to 10.
PCA president Audee Cheah, who led a five-member delegation to pay a courtesy call on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at the latter’s office in Komtar today, said they are expecting 1,500 participants from various countries this year.
The other members were PCA adviser Peter Chan Weng Seng, deputy president Lee Chan Wai, secretary-general Thomas See Swee Heng and treasurer Billy Lee.
Also present was state Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage (PETACH) Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin.
Cheah said the Battle of the Chefs has grown over the years, from 60 chefs from local hotels taking part in 1988 to attracting 1,300 chefs from 32 countries taking part in the 17th edition in 2018.
Billy Lee, who is also the competition’s organising chairman, briefed Chow and Yeoh on the history of the association, its objective and highlights of their activities via a video presentation.
The delegation also brought along a cake, some cream puffs and chicken pies to celebrate a belated Chinese New Year with Chow and Yeoh.
Chow thanked them for their visit and expressed his hopes that some corporate sponsors could be sought for the event.
