THE much-awaited Batu Kawan Bridge near Batu Kawan Stadium is expected to open to the public in October.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who also serves as the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) chairman, announced that the project, which started in December 2022, is nearing completion.
“The project previously faced a slight delay due to the partial collapse of the bridge.
“Nevertheless, PDC as the project owner, has taken the necessary measures to ensure such incidents will not happen again.
“The construction is progressing well and remains on schedule, with 85% of the work completed.
“The new bridge is expected to be finished by the end of this month and will open to the public in October. Umech Construction Sdn Bhd is the contractor for the project,” Chow said during a site visit today.
PDC chief executive officer Datuk Aziz Bakar was also present during the visit.
Chow added that once completed, Batu Kawan Bridge will improve the connectivity between Bukit Tambun and Batu Kawan.
It is learnt that the 1km bridge, which cost RM23 million, will feature a three-lane dual carriageway.
