THE situation at the Batu Lancang market which operates from afternoon till late evening is under control, says Batu Lancang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong.
“My team from the Batu Lancang Village Community Management Council (MPKK) is here to help monitor and control the crowd.
“The visitors can only go inside batch by batch as we only allow 50 customers inside the market at one time to prevent overcrowding.
“I believe this is an important precautionary measure to curb the outbreak and at the same time the market-goers would also feel safe,” Ong said when he visited the market today.
Ong added that the visitors to the Batu Lancang market were following the instructions given during the movement order control (MCO) period.
“Today is the 17th day of the MCO, and the market-goers at this place know very well on the do’s and don’ts.
“During weekends, we can see an increase in the number of people coming to the market, thus there will be a long queue.
“I don’t see anyone complaining of having to stand in a long queue, as they understand the need to do so.
“We always give priority to the elderly as well as the frontliners, such as the police who come here to purchase their household needs,” he said.
During the check conducted by the Buletin Mutiara team, the visitors to the market were seen getting their body temperature checked before entering the market.
Inside market, the team from Batu Lancang MPKK was seen reminding the people to maintain the 1m social distancing rule.
“The number of people coming to the market will be much reduced from 6.30pm onwards.
“I just would like to advise the market-goers to do their marketing as quickly as possible and buy provisions which can last them at least for three days,” Ong added.
