THE Batu Lanchang constituency will be organising its first badminton tournament on Aug 13 and 14 in a bid to find emerging talents in the sports.
Participation is open to Penangites or those working or studying in the state. They can show their working or studying passes if they are keen to join.
Batu Lanchang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong, who announced the upcoming two-day tournament, expressed his gratitude to joint-organisers Art Sport Tournament & Event Marketing, Taman Ara Village Community Management Council (MPKK), and Batu Lanchang’s Youth Committee.
“The tournament, supported by my service centre and Jelutong parliamentary service centre, will take place at the Batu Lanchang Community Hall at 9am.
“We hope to see more participation from the people, especially after the easing of restrictions,” he told reporters in Batu Lanchang Market yesterday.
There are a total of three categories for the upcoming badminton tournament. It includes the Under-16 category, Open category, and Invitation from the parliamentary, state assemblymen and MPKK service centres category.
Registration fees for the Under-16 category are RM60 per person for the boys’ singles (32 entries) while it is RM120 for the boys’ doubles (16 entries).
For the Open category, the fees are RM120 for men’s doubles (32 entries) and mixed doubles (16 entries) respectively.
For the invitation from the parliamentary, state assemblymen and MPKK service centres category, it is RM60 for a team (32 entries).
The prizes for each category are as follows:
1. Under-16 Boys’ Singles
Champion – A trophy, RM300 and gifts
Runners-up – Medals, RM 150 and gifts
Second runners-up – Medal and gifts
2. Under-16 Boys’ Doubles
Champion – A trophy, RM500 and gifts
Runners-up – Medals, RM250 and gifts
Second runners-up – Medals and gifts
3. Open Men’s Doubles
Champion – A trophy, RM1,000 and gifts
Runners-up – Medals, RM500 and gifts
Second runners-up – Medals and gifts
4. Open Mixed Doubles
Champion – A trophy, RM800 and gifts
Runners-up – Medals, RM400 and gifts
Second runners-up – Medals and gifts
5. Invitation from service centres, MPKK Doubles
Champion – A trophy, RM300 and gifts
Runners-up – Medals, RM150 and gifts
Second runners-up – Medals and gifts
Its closing date is on July 24 at 10pm. Registration can be made through Google Form (https://t.ly/LMuf) or online transfer to Public Bank at 322-680-7416
The payment receipt can be sent via WhatsApp to 011-56515839 after payment is made.
