THE construction of a retaining wall between the century-old cemetery and the Halaman Kenanga apartment is nearing completion.

Batu Uban assemblyman A. Kumaresan said the project, which began on Sept 8, is scheduled to be completed by Dec 8, but may finish ahead of time.

“Previously, the cemetery and the apartment were separated by only a chain-link fence. During heavy rains, soil erosion occurred, causing soil to spill into the apartment’s open space car park.

“To address this, we initiated the construction of a retaining wall with funds provided by Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin (RM50,000), myself (RM20,000), and the Persatuan Perkuburan Orang Cina Sungai Dua (RM130,000),” Kumaresan explained during a press conference at Halaman Kenanga, Sungai Dua.

The retaining wall, which spans over 100m and stands 8ft tall, is designed to prevent future soil erosion and protect the apartment complex.
