AS the oldest fire station in the country, the 116-year-old Central Fire Station in George Town has been attracting numerous local and foreign tourists.
Adding to its allure is the ‘Beacon of Hope’, a 100-metre-long mural situated in a lane adjacent to the iconic station.
The fire station reverted to its original name in 2019 after being known as Beach Street Fire Station.
During Chinese New Year celebration last month, the lane was adorned with 100 lanterns, as part of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort by The Learning Kingdom Education.
Recently, three murals depicting seven firefighters who perished during their line of duty were unveiled at the ‘Beacon of Hope.’
A check by Buletin Mutiara showed numerous people seizing the opportunity to capture photographs of the murals.
In honour of their sacrifices to the public, the murals depict the seven firefighters: Mohd Fatah Hashim, Yahya Ali, Izatul Akma Wan Ibrahim, Muhammad Hifdzul Malik Shaari, Mazlan Omarbaki, Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, and Adnan Othman.
The murals were created to depict the real events surrounding the sacrifices of seven firefighters in the country.
It is learnt that the idea for the murals was initiated by the Fire and Rescue Department, which sought assistance from The Learning Kingdom Education.
These murals, which have captured the attention of many, portray the courage of firefighters as they confront and extinguish fires despite facing numerous challenges.
The efforts and passion displayed by these firefighters in carrying out their duties deserve recognition by everyone, as they risked their lives to prioritise public safety.
