BEING sensitive to the needs of the community during this difficult time, Greatech Technology Berhad has come forward to lend a hand.
Its executive directors Tan Eng Kee and Khor Lean Heng have generously made personal contributions totalling RM1.2 million to six organisations and a school.
The recipients of the contribution are SJKC Tar Thong, Penang Skills Development Centre, Penang Welfare Association for Mentally Retarded Children, Penang Tech Berhad, Be Home for Special Care Penang and Penang Caring Dialysis Centre.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said social economic implications of Covid-19 pandemic could be eased when private sectors and individual benefactors work hand in hand with the state government.
“Despite the numerous efforts that have been and are being carried out by the state government, we strongly believe that this storm can only be weathered with the generosity from the private sectors and individual benefactors.
“It is encouraging to know that executive directors (Tan Eng Kee and Khor Lean Heng) of Greatech decided to help the community during this challenging period.
“Everyone is undergoing the impact of the pandemic, but what distinguishes a company from the rest is how they respond to it and get a breakthrough,” Chow said during his speech at Greatech’s Giving Day in Bayan Lepas today.
Apart from that, Chow said Penang is still the preferred destination for investors due to its healthy ‘eco-system’.
“Every individual company contributes to the well-being of the eco-system in Penang and that is why we are still being able to compete with other destinations of investment.
“We also recognise the great work of the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) which is working with the various stakeholders and growing the various industries.
“Let us all work together – let it be state, local or Federal Government, government agencies, private sectors and academia to spearhead Penang as well as the northern region’s growth, and Malaysia as a whole,” he added.
Also present was Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy.
