BINTANG Biru emerged as the champions of the Bukit Gelugor Sports Club (BGSC) NARTT Under-12 seven-a-side football tournament held at the Polo Ground recently.
They beat Young Tigers 1-0 in the final while Akademi SPU clinched third place with a 7-6 win on penalties over SB Paladins.
This year’s competition, which was held on Nov 16, attracted a total of 32 teams.
Bintang Biru won further honours when Haris Zaqwan was adjudged the Best Player and Nufal Sukiman bagged the Best Goalkeeper award.
BGSC president L. Katherisan said the annual football competition was organised in line with the state’s vision of inspiring and enhancing the young to be involved in sports and lead a healthy lifestyle.
“On top of that, BGSC continues to raise an awareness on national unity by allowing all the races to take part in the tournament.
“It is also an opportunity for the young players to display their skills and commitment at grassroots level,” said Katherisan.
KB Rangers, Panthers Junior, Sparta Penang and PPSRC were the other teams which qualified for the quarter-finals.
In the Plate competition, SK Tok Kandu finished as the winners with a 1-0 win over Lifestyle FC in the final.
Kadaram Muda ‘B’ beat their ‘A’ counterparts 3-1 for the third placing.
